Christmas Day

Hi, friends from Brazil !Happy to talk to you again! So, we are going to tell you about Christmas Day in Australia and what is special about it in this country. Christmas Day falls on December 25 and is an occasion for Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Many people, even if they are not Christian, give each other gifts, prepare special meals and decorate their homes at this time of year. Many aspects of the Christmas celebrations originated from winter celebrations in Europe. However they are increasingly influenced by the Australian climate and wildlife. People often make a special effort to spend Christmas Day with family members or close friends.

Christmas Day falls in the middle of the summer school holiday and both December 25 and 26 are public holidays. Hence, many people celebrate the event away from home, in holiday parks, on camp sites or at relatives' homes. Traditionally, the main meal was similar to the Christmas meals served in Europe. They consisted on roast meats and vegetables and heavy fruit cakes and steamed puddings.

Well…we’re going to tell you about one of the special holiday in Australia, that is “ Melbourne Cup” You might like it because we will have a holiday in November every year and this year it will be on 3 November.

First , I would like to tell you about what importance of this festival is……

Why + How
The Melbourne Cup is Australia's major annual horse race. This day is a public holiday for Melbourne, but not for country Victoria. For Federal Public Servants.
The race has been held since 1861. The event is held at 3 pm on the first Tuesday in November by the Victoria Racing Club, on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne.

However, it is also considered as a holiday in the entire state of Victoria but around both Australia and New Zealand a majority of people watch the race on television and gamble, either through direct betting or participating in workplace cup .

Fashion on that day
Fashions On The Field' is a major focus of the day, with substantial prizes awarded for the best-dressed man and woman. The requirement for elegant hats, and more recently the alternative of a fascinator. As you might not know, the miniskirt was first introduced worldwide when a model Jean Shrimpton, wore one on Derby Day during Melbourne Cup week in 1965.

Moreover, flowers, especially roses are an important component of the week's racing at Flemington. The racecourse has around 12,000 roses within its large expanse. Over 200 varieties of the fragrant flower are nurtured by a team of up to 12 gardeners.

We Celebrate Queen’s Birthday on June 8, 2009. Queen Elizebeth II was born on 21 April 1926. Queens birth is celebrated as a public holiday in 53 commonwealth countries. The exact date of the celebration varies from country to country. In Australia we celebrate the Queen’s Birthday on the second Monday in June except in Western Australia.

The day has been celebrated since 1788, when Governor Arthur Phillip declared a holiday to mark the birthday of King George III. Until 1963 it was held on the actual birthday of the Monarch, but after the death of King George V it was decided to keep the date at mid-year.

New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is the biggest celebration in Melbourne. There is live entertainment at five city venues and two spectacular fireworks displays at 9:15pm and midnight. Venues include Alexandra Gardens, Birrarung Marr, Southgate, Federation Square and Docklands. We celebrate New Year on 31 December every year. People like celebrating it in different ways like: public entertaiments, night clubs, parties at homes, hotels and restaurants. Melbourne has very nice weather at the time of New Year. Everybody comes out and enjoys fireworks at theYarra River. We wish each other HAPPY NEW YEAR! On the New Year's Eve public transport is FREE!

What is ANZAC Day?

Anzac Day is to remember those service men and civilians who died in the war since 1915. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during First World War.

Why Australians celebrate ANZAC Day? The Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of British empires, and landed in Turkey on April 25, 1915. Although they didn’t get their targets to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula to open the way to the black sea for the allied navies, they fought with skills and courage. The Anzac legend became the identity of both nations.

How Australians celebrate ANZAC Day?

Each year the commemorations follow a pattern that is familiar to each generation of Australia. In the morning of ANZAC Day, there’s a dawn service in the shrine. After that,. The veterans march down the main street in the city, they often wear uniforms and some veterans wear medals from the war.
